Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr. Asgar Samoon held a meeting in connection with the construction of Marriage Hall at Jamia Masjid and Radapora Khanyar, Srinagar.The meeting was attended by DC Srinagar, Superintendent Engineer R&B and Auqaf Committee Jama Masjid.During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner was told that Detailed Project Report (DPR) for construction of Community halls has already been formulated. Officers said both the works have been tendered out by R&B Department and work will start soon. Samoon directed the officers to accelerate the work on these halls.The Auqaf Committee raised various issues and Divisional Commissioner assured the committee members about their redressal. Div Com asked the officers to ensure proper water supply and uninterrupted electricity in the Jama Masjid area.
The Divisional Commissioner later convened a meeting regarding census of Chinars in the state.The meeting was attended by DC Srinagar, Deputy Director Floriculture, Joint Director Industries & Commerce and Conservator of Forests Kashmir.Samoon directed all the DCs and line officers to update the census of Chinar trees and submit the report to the office. It was informed by Floriculture Department that there are 38401 chinar trees as per census 2007 in Kashmir valley which includes 5306 Chinars which are above the age of 400 years.It was informed in the meeting that Department has proposal to plant 12000 chinar trees in the valley.Conservator of Forest, Kashmir said that the Department has a plan to have plantation of 19 lacs of Deodar and Fir. Officers of various districts of floriculture department were directed to submit the survey report of Chinar tees at the earlist.
