World Soil Health Day observed in Kishtwar

The Department of Agriculture today observed World Soil Health Day in which MLC, Firdous Ahmed Tak, was the chief guest.Farmers from different villages of the district participated in the programme.Speaking on the occasion, Tak stressed upon the importance of maintaining soil health which is imperative for improving the quantity and quality of agriculture production. He added that there is need to adopt innovative latest agricultural practices and implements with judicious use of fertilizers to maintain the soil health especially in hilly regions like Kishtwar where there is grave degradation of soil. He appreciated the Soil Health Card Scheme of the Department which will help the farmers to grow their crops keeping in view the soil sustainability.

Sunil Kapahi, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kishtwar appealed the farmers to use the inputs as per the Soil Health Card recommendations to enhance their production. He informed the farmers that the Soil sampling will be monitored through GPS all over the country and every farmer will be connected to this system for more information under the scheme.Meanwhile, Soil Health Cards were also distributed among the farmers.Later , a technical session was conducted in which the Agriculture experts delivered lecture on broader aspects of soil health.
