The animal livestock in Punjab play an important role in state's economy and the Livestock and Milking competitions, which carry cash prizes for the winning best breed of animals, are proving to be boon for the animal rearers. Animal rearers are flocking to these fairs and competitions in large number. Under this the two day Livestock and Milking competitions started at Mohali amd Fazilka today.At SAS Nagar the competitions are being held at historical village Chappar Chiri wherein the CPS industry and economy, Punjab Mr N K Sharma inaugurated the event.  He added that the main motive of such championships was to encourage farmers towards animal rearing to suppkement their agricultural source of income. He added that the Punjab government has started many schemes to encourage farmers towards diversification. He said that farmers should participate in Livestock and Milking competitions and take maximum advantage to inculcate the feeling of having best of animal breeds. He added that the Punjab govt was committed to usher in industrial revolution and was creating new avenues for jobs for the young population. 

He said that Rs 1400 cr wroth food processing unit was being set up by ITC at Kapurthala and in the recently held Progressive Punjab Summit around 57 MoUs were signed in the field of food processing.Infotech vice-chairman Mr Khushwant Singh Gigga said the Livestock and Milking competitions being held across the state were very useful for the animal rearers.In the first day competitions Pawandeep from Khaspur;s goat secured first place and the goat of Bikker SIngh from Dappar secured second place. The best calf nukra and three pair milk teeth award went to the calf of Pargat Singh from Padiala and second prize went to Onkarpreet Kaur from village Daun.On the other hand Fazilka district's Livestock and Milking competitions weretoday held ingrounds of Govt MR COllege Fazilka and DC Mr Ravinder SIngh inaugurated it.  He said that the animal hsubandry department was playing pivotal role in strengthening economy of the small farmers through animal rearing. During the two days competitions various animals are competing for 53 categories. More than 1400 animals have been registered for the event. Organizers are providing all kind of facilities to the participants.
