Bihar's ruling JD-U will approach the Election Commission to change its election symbol 'arrow' in favour of its previous symbol 'wheel', Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Thursday."The JD-U will approach the Election Commission for a change of its symbol. There is unanimous agreement in the party on this," the Janata Dal-United leader told the media here.

He said there was confusion among voters over the 'arrow' symbol, with some other parties having more or less similar symbol. "The JD-U lost some seats (in the assembly polls) due to confusion over the party's symbol with other parties' similar symols."

He said the JD-U was keen to get its old symbol 'wheel'."JD-U will talk to (former prime minister and Janata Dal-Secular president H.D.) Deve Gowda for this," he said. The 'wheel' was the symbol of Janata Dal before it split into the JD-U and JD-S.

JD-U leaders Ajay Alok and Neeraj Kumar say the party lost at least four seats as people confused the JD-U symbol with the 'bow and arrow' symbol of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Shiv Sena. The JD-U contested 101 of the 243 seats and won 71.
