Legislator and senior CPI(M) leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami has sought intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the establishment of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Kashmir Valley. In his letter to Indian Prime Minister, Tarigami while welcoming the establishment of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jammu and in Kashmir Valley has written that this will surely give a boost to the existing healthcare infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. “However, in order to ensure an equitable progress in the State, there is a dire need to establish IIT, IIM and IIMC in Kashmir Valley as well.”The letter reads that this is important not only to dispel the perception of discrimination but to facilitate smooth industrial growth by producing highly qualified technical and managerial personnel as well as the requisite Research and Development environment in the state.
“Initiatives encompassing a holistic developmental agenda towards socio-economic prosperity mainly focussing on the unemployment problem in regions and sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir have become imperative. However, there should be no regional imbalance or inequality in the developmental initiatives and infrastructure building as is being perceived by a large section in Kashmir valley. I would like to request for your personal intervention for establishing IIT, IIM and an IIMC in Kashmir valley,” the letter dispatched to Modi reads. (CNS)
