Minister for Transport, Abdul Gani Kohli Monday launched - Vahan: 4.0 - an online service for registration of vehicles, first of its kind, in Jammu division.  The online service was launched at the office of Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) here.Secretary Transport, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Transport Commissioner Parvez Iqbal Khateeb, Director State Motor Garages, Zakir Hussain, Additional Deputy Commissioner Reasi, RTO Jammu, Ashwani Khajuria and senior officers of Transport, MVD besides officers of the district administration were present. The Minister was informed that the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has already started Vahan- 4.0 in Pulwama and Bandipora districts and will be covering all the districts within six months. After switching over to the online system, the Minister said that Transport Department in general and MVD in particular shall be computerised to eliminate delays, middleman-ship besides frequent visits of people to the offices to get the services like licences, make payments, permissions, transfer of vehicles and route permits etc. He said within a short period of time the citizens of the state shall get all these services online.Mr. Kohli congratulated the Transport Department for introducing the online services which he said would go a long way in streamlining the functioning of the Department. He directed the authorities of National Informatics Centre (NIC) to ensure that Vahan-4.0 is stabilized and maintained efficiently. The Minister was informed that biggest advantage of this online application is that web based application is hosted centrally at a single location - National Data Centre (NDC), New Delhi and thus has eliminated need for maintaining the local infrastructure at the RTO/ARTO level thereby saving both time and money. Two route permits were issued online with the launching of the service.
