Terming the recent statement of NC patron Farooq Abdullah as “anti-people and against the unity and sovereignty of Jammu and Kashmir”, Democratic Liberation Party chairman Hashim Qureshi has said the fact is that J&K is neither an integral part of India nor a jugular vein of Pakistan but was a independent nation much before formation of both india and Pakistan. In a statement to KNS, Qureshi said it was Farooq Abdullah who in 1974 had pledged to fight for the freedom of Jammu and Kashmir at a rally in Mirpur (Azad Kashmir) by brandishing a gun in full public view which he was given by Shaheed Maqbool Bhat who was present in the rally.

“And soon after that Farooq returned to Kashmir only to take oath as a minister in his father’s cabinet. So how can one trust the words of such a person? His statements are purely meaningless,” said Qureshi. He added that Farooq Abdullah while in power provokes India to launch surgical attacks on Azad Kashmir but is habitual of remembering 1953 position of Kashmir once he is out of power. “Perhaps he is doing this to remain in good books of Pakistan and to remain relevant in politics,” he said, adding that Farooq’s son Omar   Abdullah, the ex-chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, had accepted the mistakes committed by his grandfather (Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah) before Parevez Musharaf, the former president of Pakistan, in Islamabad only to gain sympathy of the Pakistan establishment of that time, which is total betrayal with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that DLP wants to make it amply clear that the state of Jammu and Kashmir which is spread on 84,000 square kilometers of land from Damchowk Ladakh toGilgit Baltistan to Lakhanpur is a single unit and no political party or government can’t decide on the fate of any part of this state.Hashim Qureshi said that the only solution of Kashmir dispute is that the state is restored back to its original status which was prior to 1947 and the state is handed over to its people irrespective of religion and tribe so that an independent Jammu and Kashmir is created which can become abode of peace for entire South Asia.
