To give boost to agriculture, horticulture and allied sectors a mega kissan mela cum exhibition was held here at shopian Mini Secretariat today.The Mega Kissan Mela cum Exhibition was organised by Department of Agriculture in collaboration with Horticulture department.  As many as more than 50 stalls were installed by different departments having different high yielding varieties of vegetables, crops, agricultural machinery, organic fertilizers, pesticides, and other allied sectors of agriculture and horticulture sector which were depicting the latest technologies to be adopted for increasing the production and productivity of agriculture and horticulture crops.The camp was inaugurated by MLA Wachi Ajaz Ahmad Mir, MLA Shopian Advocate Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, in presence of District Development Commissioner Shopian G.M. Dar.The camp was attended by the officers and officials of all agriculture and allied departments, besides a large number of fruit growers, progressive farmers also attended the camp.

While interacting with the farmers MLA Wachi said that awareness about different schemes is  is lacking at the ground level and the departments are requested to give requisite information to the  the farmers about the schemes launched by the government.He said that the   high yielding varieties should  be made available to farmers on subsidized rates.MLA Shopian in his address said that horticulture is the back bone of state and advised the farmers go far high density plantations to increase their production.DDC assured the gathering that such types of awareness programmes will be held at all blocks, so that the farmers get the technological know how at their door steps. He stressed upon the farmers to raise their crops on scientific basis.Experts from the valley give awareness to farmers about latest technologies to be adopted in agriculture such as use of high yielding varieties of cereals, vegetables and fruits and use of vermi compost.

Earlier chief agriculture officer shopian gave brief about the schemes such as seed village programme of paddy and potato and providing of subsidy on machinery, IP sets. Bore wells, vermi compost units and poly green houses.The Chief horticulture officer shopian gave awareness about rejuvenation of horticulture, reviving the old orchards, subsidy on plants and also giving of subsidy on sheds for big orchardists for sorting /grading and storage. Besides, he also gave information about subsidy on tractors, tillers, power sprayers vermi compost units and poly green houses.
