Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and Member Parliament, Ms Mehbooba Mufti today complimented PDP cadres for having successfully carried the party’s political and economic agenda to the grassroots level.“It is inspiring to note how PDP cadres have and continue to sacrifice their personal interests for the larger objective of ensuring peace, prosperity and dignity of Jammu and Kashmir and its people,” Ms Mehbooba said while addressing a meeting of the party office-bearers, district and zonal presidents here today.Thanking the PDP cadres for having turned up in large numbers at the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s rally in Srinagar last week, Mehbooba said the party cadres welcomed the Prime Minister with the distinctive tradition of hospitality, for which Kashmiris are known world over. “The optimism of our cadres that Jammu & Kashmir is headed for political stability and economic prosperity, is driven by the party’s vision of a future that holds promise of peace and prosperity for its people who have suffered immensely because of the decades’ long political uncertainty, economic deprivation and misgovernance,” she said and added that PDP’s core agenda revolves around the ideals of politically stable and economically vibrant future for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba said the PDP-led government had in 2002 sparked political, economic and social activity on a phenomenal scale in Jammu & Kashmir facilitating complete transformation of the ground situation on almost every front. “With the announcement of the fresh Rs 80000 crore economic package by the Prime Minister, the State Government is going to revive the process of rehabilitation, reconstruction and economic rejuvenation on a massive scale and the results will be there for the people to see,” she said and added that the package would not only ensure fresh relief for the flood-affected people, but also bring a turnaround in key sectors like road communication, health, education, tourism, power and urban development with huge resources being made available for new initiatives in these sectors.

“I am sure the quantum of resources available for these crucial sectors, would transform the developmental landscape of the State and the people would get the much-needed relief after having witnessed the darkest era of misgovernance and development deficit during the past six years of NC-Cong coalition rule,” Mehbooba said.PDP has, Ms Mehbooba said, entered into an alliance with the BJP to seek as per its “Agenda of Alliance” national reconciliation on the political and economic challenges confronting Jammu and Kashmir. She said the purpose of this alliance is to catalyze reconciliation and confidence building within and across the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K to create an enabling environment for sustainable peace, all round economic development and prosperity of J&K. “We would continue to pursue our agenda with unflinching consistency under the visionary leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,” she said.Senior PDP leader and Minister for Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq, MPs, PDP General Secretaries Nizam-ud-Din Bhat and Rafi Ahmad Mir, party’s Chief Spokesman, Dr Mehboob Beg, Political Advisor to PDP President, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, legislators and other office-bearers were present on the occasion.
