A spontaneous shutdown amidst clashes continued for the second straight day in various parts of City here against killing of Engineering student Gowhar Nazir by government forces on Saturday last week leaving 8 persons injured.According to GNS Correspondent, youths in several parts of Old City including Nowhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Saraf Kadal, Gojwara and Kawdara this morning took to streets and enforced shutdown against the killing. They staged anti-India and pro-freedom slogans and resorted to heavy stone-pelting on police and paramilitary forces.

Eyewitnesses said the forces responded by firing teargas and pepper gas to disperse the youths but the demonstrators continued to pelt stones. The clashes continued intermittently throughout the day leaving 4 persons injured.The clashes and shutdown also continued in HMT, Zainakote, Narbal, Shalteng and adjoining areas against the killing. The protesters in these areas blocked roads and pelted stones on forces heavily. The clashes continued throughout the day leaving 4 persons injured. Among the injured include an elderly woman identified as Shahmali of Narbal. Due to clashes, the traffic movement remained affected.Meanwhile, life in other parts of the Valley returned to normal after three days of shutdown, clashes, restrictions and protests. All the shops and other commercial establishments open and function smoothly. The traffic was also plying normally. (GNS)
