HE AmeeraBinKaram, Chairperson of the Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC) has receivedthe World of Difference Award from The InternationalAlliance for Women (TIAW) for her outstanding work within the charity, nonprofit and NGO sector.The prestigious awards go to womenwith an interest in leadership and advancement that adds to the global movement that empowers women in the pivotal role they play in the progress and development of societies worldwide. This year nominations were received from 54 different countries and provided a vivid look at the inspiring work that people around the world are doing to support the economic empowerment of women.The awards ceremony took place in Washington, DC at the Hamilton Crowne Plazarecentlyduring the TIAW Global Forum, a three-day networking and discussion event that seeks to forward the movement of women’s empowerment.  HEAlia Suwaidi, a UAE Diplomatat the UAE embassy in Washington DC received the award on behalf of BinKaram.

HE BinKaram said, “I am delighted to receive this award from TIAW for work that is close to my heart in every respect. Our UAE leaders serve as an inspiration to me in the work I undertake to progress the role of women across all sectors as they believe that women are an important factor in the nation’s social and economic progress. In particular Her Highness SheikhaJawaherbint Mohammed Al Qasimi wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Honorary Patron of SBWC, who believes that when women make progress,and their capabilities are employed in the service of their countries, then communities will develop and prosperity will be achieved. This is the mandate that drives me forward through a range of programs andinitiatives aimed at empowering women to achieve their dreams.” 

TIAW is a global organisation dedicated to the economic empowerment and advancement of women all over the globe. TIAW spans a multitude of countries on six continents with member associations yielding a combined reach of more than 35,000 women. From supporting micro-credit in the developing world to advocating for more women in top global boardrooms, TIAW’s work is based on the knowledge that when women and girls are economically empowered, whole families, communities and societies benefit in equal measure.BinKaram added, “The work of the TIAW reflect the aims and goals of the SBWC which seeks to empower, support and elevate women. SBWC will reinforce and develop women's contribution to economic life and highlight their successes in various business areas, so that women will play an influential role in developing themselves, their families and communities, and become role models for women everywhere.”TheSharjah Business Women’s Council (SBWC) was established in 2002 to enhance the work environment for women as well as train and prepare women to enter the private sector and enhance their participation in social and economic development.
