Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings Choudhary Lal Singh today inaugurated two day Biennial Conference of Gastrointestinal Infection Society of India, GISICON-2015 at Government Medical College Hospital (GMC).The Conference, being organised by the Department of Microbiology and Medicine, was attended by Principal GMC Dr. Ghanshyam Dev, Director Health Services Dr. Baljeet Singh Pathania, Director Family Welfare Dr. Baldev Raj Sharma, Mission Director National Health Mission Dr. Mohan Singh, President GISICON Dr. Bella Mahajan, Chairperson Dr. Annil Mahajan, Co-organising Secretary Dr. Vijyant Singh Chandial, Organising Secretary GISICON Dr. Sandeep Dogra, besides Heads of departments of GMC, Former Principals besides students were present on the occasion.

After inaugurating the GISICON conference, the Minister welcomed the delegates and congratulated the organizers for hosting this informative event. He emphasized the need for providing state of art diagnostic services in tertiary care hospitals and peripheral hospitals of the state.He said that such type of conferences will greatly help in promotion of advancement of basic and clinical research on prevalent and emerging gastrointestinal infections, scientific knowledge. Besides, it will disseminate information to the members of the society from time to time, encourage the advance medical research and practice of the subject of gastrointestinal infections in every possible way, provide a common platform for those active in the field of gastrointestinal infections so that discussion on problems of gastrointestinal infections can be conducted on a national scale.

Eminent experts from various states of the country are participating in the conference. The event, which deliberated on diseases such as cholera and typhoid, saw nearly 150 delegates attending it on the first day.The second day will have two plenary sessions on various aspects of gastrointestinal infections in immune compromised patients and another on miscellaneous gastrointestinal infections.Later, Choudhary Lal Singh took stock of facilities being provided to the patients at Emergency Ward and Intensive Care Unit of the GMC hospital. He went around each section of the ward and directed the doctors to provide best medicare to the patients. He also stressed for maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings in the hospital premises. He interacted with the patients and enquired about the facilities being provided to them.Choudhary Lal Singh asked the Medical Superintendent of the hospital not to allow any private agency for sale of medicine in the hospital, as complained by the public. He cautioned all concerned of strict action with regard to patient care.
