Taking prompt action on the reported damages caused to the houses and schools due to tremors that shook the state yesterday, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar G N Balwan today rushed to Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Government Higher Secondary School, Girls, City Middle Schools in Kishtwar and Nagsani and took stock of the situation there .The Deputy Commissioner inspected the condition of residential, public and commercial buildings that developed cracks due to devastating tremors having epicenter in Hindu Kush mountain range of Afghanistan. He directed the field functionaries of revenue  department  to report the quantum of damages caused to the property so that necessary steps could be initiated for providing compensation to the victims at the earliest.

 During his visit to the Nagsani area of Kishtwar district, the DC interacted with the locals who apprised him about the problems being faced by them. They demanded regular supply of clean drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, improvement in condition of roads and construction of water canals. The DC instructed the concerned officers to take necessary action for mitigating the genuine demands of the people of the area.  Meanwhile, an awareness camp under AASRA scheme of Social Welfare Department was also organized in Nagsani. The Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar G N Balwan was the chief guest on the occasion.

While addressing the gathering, the DC informed the participants that under Aasra, the state government would pay premium for the Prime Minister Surakhsha Bhima Yojna and Prime Minister Jeevan Jyoti Bhima Yojna in case of eligible beneficiaries including breadwinners of families whose annual income is less than Rs 75,000 and all widows and destitute .

He said that  all such  families must register themselves with the social welfare department and the department will forward the cases of eligible families to the banks where the beneficiaries have their bank accounts and the financial assistance will be provided to them through the banks, he added.He further informed that since the launch of the scheme, about 1,000 beneficiaries have registered with the Social Welfare Department for which five such awareness camps have been organized across the district.
