The Cabinet which met Monday here passed in one voice a resolution moved by the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, to express deep shock and grief over the tragic death of Zahid Bhat, who succumbed to his injuries sustained after he was set afire in an attack in Udhampur on October 9.Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, the Cabinet observed a two-minute silence in memory of the departed soul.The Cabinet also approved ex gratia relief of Rs.5 lakh and Rs. 3 lakh and government jobs in favour of the Next of Kin of Zahid and Showkat Ahmad Dar, who is undergoing treatment in the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.Appreciating the people for maintaining calm, the Cabinet assured that the investigation will be fast-tracked so that those found guilty of this heinous crime are not allowed to go unpunished under any circumstance.

Asserting that the constituency of peace will be further strengthened, the Cabinet vowed to defeat the conspiracy hatched by certain people to subvert the Agenda of Peace and Reconciliation of the Coalition government.Those booked under Public Safety Act for Udhampur attack include Sandoor Singh, son of Thakur Singh, resident of Dheda, tehsil Gool, Danish alias Pammal son of Khushia, resident of W. No 12, Dewak, Udhampur, Harish Singh Katoch, son of Chuni Lal Katoch, resident of Village Bhimdassa, tehsil Gool, district Ramban, Balbahadur Singh alias Abbu, s/o Girdhari Lal resident Moungri, tehsil Moungri and Varinder Singh alias Kaka, resident of  Nepal, A/P Sambal, A/P Shiv Nagar, District Udhampur.The four other accused persons, who have been arrested, are Jasbir Singh son of Baldev Singhof Laddan Power House, Udhampur, Rahul Sharma, son of Purshottam, resident of Sambal, Udhampur, Suneet Singh, son of Pardeep Singh, resident of Sambhal, Udhampur and Rameshwar Singh alias Gushu, son of Karan Singh, resident of Sambal, Udhampur.
