Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings, Choudhary Lal Singh today said Kashmir’s premier child care facility, G B Pant hospital has come a long way after it was hit by the devastating floods in September 2014.Urging people to admit pregnant women in the hospital at least four to five days ahead of actual delivery date, Singh said it would help to address the issue of child mortality rate in the state.Cautioning doctors over unnecessary referrals, Singh said that district hospitals refer infants in critical condition to the tertiary care hospitals. "And it also adds to mortality ratio," he said.  He further added that distance between pediatric hospital and maternity hospital creates problem in case of infant develops complications. He said the State government is making efforts including improving sanitation to bring the mortality rate in the G B Pant hospital down. "The results are there for everyone to see," the Minister said.Singh said that he also informed legislators in a recently held autumn session of legislature over revamping of the GB Pant hospital.
