District Development Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar today convened a meeting of officers to discuss the steps being taken under intensive sanitation cleanliness campaign in the district.During the meeting, DDC laid thrust on intensive National sanitation Cleanliness Campaign which commenced from September 25 upto October 31 to carry the message of swachta. DDC reviewed the activities under Swach Bharat Abhiyan and “My Village My World”. He directed officers to sensitize rural masses on safe sanitation and need to construct and use toilets, safe handling, storage of drinking water and awareness to keep their surrounding clean.Earlier DPO Kathua who is also member secretary of “My Village My World” briefed DDC regarding the activities which were taken up in rural areas under the campaign.CEO was directed to create awareness among students during their morning assemblies and rallies to be carried out in schools on World Hand Washing Day i.eOctober 15 to motivate children regarding Hand Washing. CEO was further directed to organize seminars, symposium in schools.
DDC called upon the ACD, CDPO’s to create awareness among rural masses including Anganwadi workers and helpers during PRI’s meetings regarding Swach Bharat Abhiyan, about hazards of plastic (polythene) use, making rural areas open defecation free. CMO was directed to mobilize Village Sanitation Committees to educate people about sanitation, cause of dengue and its preventive measure besides involving ASHA workers in cleanliness campaign.
DDC stressed on all the departments to work in coordination and make adequate efforts for the success of Intensive National Sanitation Cleanliness Campaign. He directed PO DRDA to engage self help groups for imparting educative sessions among women on cleanliness, sanitation, safe handling and storage of drinking water.
