Minister for PHE, I&FC, Choudhary Sukhnandan Kumar informed the House that construction work on Right Brenghi Canal was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 19.64 crore, against which an expenditure of Rs 16.77 crore has been incurred ending last fiscal.Replying to a question by MLA Kokernag, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, the Minister said that Rs 77.70 lakh have been earmarked for the said project during current financial year against the balance cost of Rs 286.60 lakh. He said the provision for compensation of the land, coming under the project, was fixed at the rate of Rs 30,000 per kanal in the DPR while the PNCs (Price Negotiation Committee) has fixed the compensation at Rs 5.50 lakh per kanal.The Minister informed that in view of the revision of the land compensation by PNC, an additional amount of Rs 3.70 crore is required for compensation of land and fruit bearing trees. He said the delay in release of funds for land compensation has hampered the completion of the project. He said the project work will be completed in the next financial year subject to the availability of balance cost.
