The Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of the face value of Rs.5 lakh and over 20 kg of silver from near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal.In the first operation, the troopers seized the fake notes from under the Sukhdevpur border outpost in Malda district as they were being smuggled into India.Alarmed over the circulation of fake notes, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has already taken over the probe into several seizures of counterfeit money made in the state.
The BSF so far in the year has seized over Rs.1.88 crore in FICN from across the south Bnegal frontier.In another operation, the BSF troopers seized 20.9 kg of silver ornaments from near Harish Nagar railway station under Banpur border outpost in Nadia district.The ornaments kept in bags and wrapped in tapes were being smuggled out of the country to Bangladesh, said a BSF officer. The BSF so far in the eyar has seized over 200 kg of silver worth over Rs. 43 lakh from the South Bengal frontier.
