Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmad Shah Saturday conducted a meeting and took first hand appraisal of the various arrangements put in place for Muharram.MLA Zadibal Abid Hussain Ansari was also present in the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner stressed upon the officers to provide every facility to people especially in the Shia dominated areas. He directed Public Health Engineering and Power Development Department to ensure un-interrupted power and drinking water supply. The Deputy Commissioner asked the Health authorities to ensure availability of Ambulances and First Aid as well as doctors and Para medical staff. The Deputy Commissioner also asked the State Road Transport Corporation (STRC) and Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir to ensure deployment of adequate number of buses and availability of proper transport facility at various locations of Srinagar to ferry the Muharram mourners till late hours.
He instructed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officers to ensure cleanliness around Imembaras and Mosques where from processions come out during the Muharram days and replace damaged street lights and install new street lights so that the mourners will not suffer during their night movements.The Deputy Commissioner asked the concerned departments to conduct market inspections in the Srinagar district to check black marketing and stop scarcity of eatables and book the erring traders and business establishments who are found violating Essential Commodities Act.Superintending Engineers, (R&B), EM&RE, PHE, UEED, representatives of Shia Association, Srinagar and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
