Gandhi Global Family J&K today organized a function to commemorate the 146th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Dewan-e-Aam Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex Jammu.Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal, who was the chief guest on the occasion, paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.While speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner impressed upon the students to imbibe the ‘Gandhian Philosophy’ in their day to day lives to lead a peaceful life. He also highlighted the philosophy of non-violence of Mahatma Gandhi and its importance in present times.Divisional Commissioner stressed upon promotion of national integration and equitable development of all sections of the society. The cleanliness of self and surroundings is of paramount value which was exercised by Mahatma Gandhi, he added.

On the occasion, 193 flags of various nations were displayed by the students of Lawrence Public School Jammu to mark Global peace as one of the main visions of Mahatma Gandhi.As the day is also being observed as International Non-Violence day, students of various schools threw light on Mahatma Gandhi's contribution towards bringing peace and non-violence to this world. Besides, the students also celebrated ‘Swachhta Diwas’.The Divisional Commissioner and other dignitaries paid homage to Former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 111th Birth Anniversary.On the occasion, Divisional Commissioner distributed prizes among the winners of debate competition organized by the Gandhi Global Family on the topic of ‘Significance of Mahatma Gandhi’s Ideology’. 

Deepanjali Salathia, Ruqiya Qazi and Saba Sarwar Mir of Govt. College for Women Gandhi Nagar won the first, second and third prize in the competition.President Gandhi Global Family, Padamshri, S.P. Varma, presented Indo-UN Pins to Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal and Principal Commissioner Income Tax J&K Sangeeta Gupta for their contribution towards society on behalf of Director United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, New Delhi. On the occasion, the participants took pledge of maintaining peace, harmony and brotherhood besides contributing in making India a clean and health nation.Director Doordarshan Jammu Anjali Sharma, Wing Commander MM Joshi besides other prominent citizens were also presented in the function.
