With a view to ensuring total facelift of the holy city of Amritsar, the Punjab government the Deputy Chief Minister Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal has directed the senior officers department of PWD (B&R) to formulate a comprehensive master plan of constructing 8-10 lane service lanes around Sri Darbar Sahib so as to cater to the needs of the pilgrims visiting the shrine from all over for the next 50 years.
Directing the officers to implement the execution of various development projects already commissioned in the walled city of Amritsar, Mr. Badal asked them to initiate the construction of roads at the earliest. He has also asked the Deputy Commissioner Amritsar to hold regular weakly meetings with the departments concerned and expedite the construction work within a stipulated time frame.While reviewing the ongoing progress of the entrance plaza in Golden Temple, Mr. Badal said that the shops around Sri Darbar Sahib would be vacated. Clarifying further he said that there would be no compromise with the beautification around the Harmandar Sahib. Mr. Badal accompanied by Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Member Parliament Bathinda said that the glorious historical and religious importance of the shrine would be maintained at all costs. He also directed the Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mr. D.P.S.Kharbanda to ensure complete hygiene and cleanliness around the Darbar Sahib.
