The Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone and Minister for CA&PD, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan today visited Government Degree College, Handwara and inaugurated the Library and Computer Lab in the said College, besides inspected various blocks to assess the infrastructure and other facilities in the College. The Principal briefed the visiting Ministers about the demands and needs for the College administration.Speaking on the occasion, the Higher Education Minister said that Government is committed to fulfil the needs and demands of the Colleges at various levels so that the students would be able to meet out the challenges in various fields for this purpose, he announced Rs. 10 lakh for repair and renovation of laboratory block, Rs. 3.50 crores for Science Laboratory blocks, Rs. 3 lakhs for Lecture Hall besides Common Facility Hall, 50 kanals of land for College and the other infrastructure development for this purpose. He directed the district and Tehsil administration for formulation of DPR to start the work. He also announced that Women’s College at Handwara would be the priority.
On this occasion, The Minister for CA&PD addressed the gathering and briefed about the progress achieved in the Constituency during his tenure. He announced Rs. 12 lakhs for College out of his Constituency Development Fund besides 2 first aid centres in Kupwara and Handwara Degree Colleges of District Plan.The Director College Education, Prof. Tariq Ahmad Kawoosa, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, S.P, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Principals of various Colleges, Teachers and respectables were present in the function.The students presented colourful cultural programmes and college tarana besides BUNGUS-2013 magazine was released on this occasion.
