“ Special attention is required in the Agriculture and Horticulture sectors, which are the back-bone of the economy in the district” this was stated by District Development Commissioner Kishtwar Saugat Biswas in a meeting with the farmers, who returned after three days of tour to Kashmir via Ramban The farmers visited Advance Center of Rehabilitation (Indo Italian Olive Project) at Ramban, walnut processing plant at district Kulgam (a private entrepreneurship) followed by central institute of Temperate Horticulture in Srinagar and Horticultural department Nursing at Brijbera and got acquainted themselves with different techniques of walnut processing, canning and breeding of plants.
Interacting with the farmers, DDC Kishtwar advised the farmers to adopt fruit cultivation in a big way which has enormous potential in the area. He urged upon them to equip themselves with the latest technologies being adopted in the cultivation of fruits at advance centers at Ramban, Srinagar and Budgam and during their visit there.Sarpanch Association President Mr. Manoj Parihar highlighted the problems being faced by farmers and apprised DDC Kishtwar that the need of the hour is to provide them the high breed plantation (tested plant) in the form of apple, zaitoon, walnut, Apricot etc, soil testing, canning and processing, opening of Horticultural marketing Center, horticultural sale center .
The District Development Commissioner asked the officers of the concerned departments to prepare projects in consultation with experts under Agriculture and Horticulture sectors for the Marwah, Padder, Nagsena and Kishtwar belts as it is beset with the potential and will prove fruitful for the large interest of the farmers. He stressed that more and more farmers need to be trained block wise properly in all modern affordable technologies as well as in the sector of food processing. He directed the CHO to prepare proposals in this regards and submit the same for the further actions.
