Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said his government was fully committed to reviving the sick Assam Tea Corporation Ltd (ATCL).Chairing a meeting at his official residence here on Tuesday, Gogoi stressed on the need to revitalise ATCL to pursue its objectives more vigorously and to lend life to its sick tea gardens, an official statement said on Wednesday."We will do all possible to solve the problems of tea garden labourers and we will jointly formulate a strategy to revive sick tea gardens in the state," Gogoi said.Tea Tribes Welfare Minister Atuwa Munda, Water Resources and Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Basanta Das, Chief Secretary V.K. Pipersenia and a host of senior officials were present at the meeting.Gogoi discussed several issues linked with ATCL and emphasised on the need to evolve a strategy for the ATCL. He also reviewed the problems faced by the garden workers and said the needful would be done to solve their problems.ATCL is a wholly-owned Assam government public sector undertaking established in 1972. It comprises 14 tea estates spread over 13,000 hectares of prime land scattered over six districts in the state.
