The Commercial Taxes departments (CTD), Jammu pision has registered a growth of 12.27 percent by realizing a revenue of over Rs 2151 cr during first seven months of the current financial year (ending October) as compared to Rs 1915.97 cr realized during the corresponding period of the last fiscal. This was revealed at a meeting of the senior officers of Commercial Taxes department, Jammu convened to review performance of the department.The Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs,  Abdul Rahim Rather chaired the meeting.

The CTD, Jammu has been given an overall revenue target of Rs 3454.78 cr for the current financial year, off which, Rs 2151 cr has been realized by the end of October this year which constitutes 62.26 percent of the target.The Commissioner Commercial Taxes, Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Additional Commissioner CTD, Jammu, Mr. P. I. Khateeb, Additional Secretary Finance, Mr. Shawkat Aijaz and all Deputy Commissioners and circle heads of the CTD, Jammu attended the meeting.

It was given out that against a total 36684 registered dealers upto Ist April 2013, 1295 new dealers have been registered during first seven months (ending October) of the current fiscal whereas registrations of 538 dealers were cancelled during the same period, leaving a balance of 37441 registered dealers upto ending October 2013 in the pision.The field functionaries of the department have conducted about 1488 inspections and imposed a penalty of Rs 27.86 lakh on offenders.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the CTD has a pivotal role in the economic scenario of the State as it is a major revenue earning department. He asked the officers and field agencies of the department to work with added dedication and devotion so as to come upto the expectations of the Government. He urged for tightening noose on tax evaders, vigorous perusal of court cases and effective monitoring to ensure that the assigned revenue target are not only achieved but surpassed. He said more reforms shall be introduced in the CTD to bring more accountability in its functioning adding that poor performers shall have no  place in this most important revenue earning department because “we want to take no chances”.  He asked the officers to ensure that no tax offender goes scot free.
