Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), an autonomous body of Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports today organised Mass Awakening Campaign for Youth Participation in Nation Development- at Government Dental College.Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Information Technology and Technical Education, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari was the chief guest on the occasion while as Director General, NYKS, Delhi, Major General (Retd.) Dilawar Singh was the guest of honour.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the Awakening programme, aims at motivating and mobilizing rural youth so as to enhance their capacities to develop democratic institutional mechanism and to empower them to become productive and responsible citizens.Ansari called upon youth to come forward and take active part in the process of community development and nation building activities. He mentioned various flagship programmes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dan Yojna, Swach Bharat Mission, Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan, Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna and underscored the need for continuing the process of awakening the people about the schemes. He said Government has also launched a welfare scheme-LADLI- where under an amount Rs.1000 per month shall be deposited in the recurring account of a newborn girl child, till she grows up to 16.
The Minister also called for organising such programmes periodically both in rural and urban areas of the state so that more and more people could be benefited.Mr. Ansari asked all stake holders to put in extra efforts at gross root level so that better results could be yielded in a time bound manner by providing benefits of the schemes to the needy and the poor.Director General, NYKS Major General (Retd.) Dilawar Singh said the objective of the Mass Awakening Campaign was is to make aware and educate youth on key issues in thematic areas, provide information on the avenues for skill development, encourage and empower them with the spirit of volunteerism.He further stated that the ‘innovative’ project of Mass Awakening Campaign gives emphasis on encouraging and empowering youth for employment and self-employment; Decentralization and People's Participation from Representative to Participatory Democracy.Zonal Director, NYKS Mr. Sukhdev Singh and district co-ordinator also spoke on the occasion.
