The Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD) yesterday (Monday) began the implementation of the trial phase of the Sharjah Census 2015, which will officially begin in October.The four-day pilot phase, which will run until September 3rd, involves the census of buildings, homes and commercial properties in four key areas in Sharjah, namely, Al Majaz 2, Al Rahamaniya 5, Sharjah Industrial Area and Al Rolla.The Sharjah Census staff visited a selection of residents and establishments in the four areas where they collected preliminary information and data about the number of members of each family and how many families are living in each housing unit. In addition to collecting the name, telephone number and Emirates ID number of the interviewed person.During the first two days, the Sharjah Census team received a great response from residents in the designated areas where they provided them with all the information needed. 

In the similar vein, the residents showed their eagerness to fully co-operate with the Sharjah census team for the nation's higher national interest and the importance of the census, which will reflect positively on the life of Emirati citizens, residents and visitors alike.Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Sharjah Census 2015 and Chairman of DSCD, said: "The implementation of this pilot phase comes in line with a predetermined strategic plan that was set to ensure the efficiency of the census technical plans in regards with its execution and performance. The pilot phase will help us identify the points of weakness in the census forms and the technical system, allowing us to tackle them and assuring the quality of the official census in October."

Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani lauded the cooperation demonstrated by people in the areas involved in the pilot phase with the multilingual census teams, who were ready to respond to queries from families and establishments owners covered by the Census in their mother tongue.Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Director of DSCD and Deputy General Supervisor of the Sharjah Census, accompanied by Ali Mahboob Al Raisi, Statistical Adviser at DSCD, and Abdullah Al Kaddeed, Director of the Census Operations, inspected the progress of work on the trial census as he visited the census staff in the specified areas to ensure their commitment to the tasks that they have been assigned.

The trial census will be followed by a session on September 6th to discuss the findings. An official report will be prepared between the 7th and the 10th of September, that will include the results and recommendations, In February, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri decree No.7 of 2015 on conducting a general census of the population, infrastructure, housing and establishments in Sharjah. The census aims to provide accurate statistical data on economic, social and demographic sectors, and others in the Emirate of Sharjah.The Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development is the only authorized statistical body in the emirate and the source of official statistical data, as well as the body mandated with all community development related policies and plans. It is a corporate body with full legal capacity to carry out and direct all works and necessary actions to achieve its objectives.
